1. Introduction

QR Code App is a free mobile application for Android that scans and generates QR codes and barcodes. This privacy policy explains what data we collect, how we use it, and what rights you have over your data.

The app is designed to be private by default: it does not use analytics, does not display advertising, does not require an account, and does not send any of your data to a server we control. The website qr-code.dartnest-studio.com follows the same principles, with the single exception of the address lookup feature described in section 3.2.

2. Data Controller

The data controller responsible for this application and website is:

3. What Data We Collect and Process

3.1 Camera access (mobile app only)

When you scan a code with the mobile app, we access your device's camera to detect QR codes and barcodes. The camera feed is processed entirely on your device. Nothing is recorded, stored or transmitted. You can revoke camera permission at any time from Android Settings → Apps → QR Code App → Permissions → Camera.

The website does not access your camera. The scanner is available only in the mobile app.

3.2 Address lookup (website only)

The website's QR generator includes an address autocomplete feature for the "Location" QR type. When you type an address, the search query is sent to OpenStreetMap's Nominatim service (nominatim.openstreetmap.org) to retrieve matching suggestions and their geographic coordinates. Your query and IP address are visible to that service.

We do not store these queries, do not log them, and have no access to any data sent to Nominatim. Nominatim is operated by the OpenStreetMap Foundation under its own privacy policy (see section 4). If you prefer not to query Nominatim, you can enter latitude and longitude manually instead of typing an address — in that case, no network request is made.

3.3 Generated QR codes

All QR codes you generate — whether with the mobile app or the website — are created entirely on your device. The content you enter is never transmitted to any server. When you download a QR code as a PNG file, the file is saved locally on your device.

3.4 Local storage

The website stores your language preference in your browser's localStorage, so that the site opens in the same language next time. This is a single value (for example "en" or "ro"), it contains no personal information, and you can delete it at any time by clearing your browser's site data.

The mobile app stores your saved QR codes and settings locally on your device. This data is accessible only to the app and never leaves your device unless you explicitly choose to share it (see section 3.5).

3.5 Sharing

When you choose to share a generated QR code or its content from the mobile app, Android's native share menu opens and you decide which app receives the data. We never receive a copy of anything you share.

3.6 No accounts, no tracking, no ads

Neither the app nor the website require an account. We do not use cookies for tracking, do not embed analytics services, do not display advertising, and do not collect telemetry about how you use the app.

4. Third-Party Services

The following third-party services are used. They are listed with links to their privacy policies so you can review them.

5. Data Retention

We do not store any personal data on servers we control, because we do not operate any servers. All data the app uses (saved QR codes, settings) is stored only on your device and is deleted when you uninstall the app.

The website does not store any data on a server. The only persistent data is your language preference, stored in your browser's localStorage as described in section 3.4.

6. Your Rights under GDPR

If you are located in the European Economic Area, you have the following rights under the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR):

  • Right of access — you can request a copy of any personal data we hold about you.
  • Right to rectification — you can request correction of inaccurate data.
  • Right to erasure ("right to be forgotten") — you can request deletion of your data.
  • Right to restrict processing — you can request restrictions on how we process your data.
  • Right to data portability — you can request your data in a portable format.
  • Right to object — you can object to our processing of your data.
  • Right to lodge a complaint — you can file a complaint with your local data protection authority.

Since we do not store personal data on our servers, most of these rights are already satisfied by design. To exercise any right, or if you have any question, please contact us at [email protected].

7. Data Security

All communication with third-party services (Nominatim, jsDelivr, Google Fonts) is encrypted using HTTPS. The app and website do not have a login system, do not store credentials, and do not keep any database that could be breached. However, no method of transmission over the internet or electronic storage is 100% secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

8. Children's Privacy

The app and website are not directed at children under 13 years of age. We do not knowingly collect any personal data from children.

9. Changes to This Policy

We may update this privacy policy from time to time. Any changes will be posted on this page with the updated "Last updated" date.
